EXCHANGE OF EXPERIENCE SESSION ON EUROPEAN SUMPs
02/2015

On January 28th, 2015, as part of the preparatory work for the development of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) for the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB), an exchange session on European SUMPs was held in the Disseny HUB of Barcelona.

The event, organized in cooperation with the ENDURANCE project, gathered representatives from four European metropolitan areas, namely Helsinki (Tuire Valkonen), Frankfurt Rhine main (Jens Vogel and André Bruns), Greater Manchester (Nicola Kane) and Copenhagen (Anette Enemark), who presented their corresponding sustainable mobility vision, as well as other SUMP related issues, such as the planning approach in each case, governance and financing issues, innovative measures, etc. Presentations were followed by a discussion session, open to the audience, aiming to gain more insights into a number of key topics for SUMP development in large metropolitan areas. The session was closed by AMB’s Vice-President for Mobility and Transport, Antoni Poveda, who explained the ambition of the Metropolitan Area in regards of the future SUMP, currently under development.
Following ENDURANCE’s Policy Exchange approach, the session was intended to serve AMB as an opportunity to get first hand advice on SUMP development from other metropolitan areas from Europe with a sound expertise in the matter who have faced similar challenges.
