In the recent years the solution of traffic and mobility problems in the urban area have always played a strategic goal for the decision makers of Parma. The main strategies that have been implemented progressively tend to discourage private car use in the central areas, while promoting more environmentally friendly modes. For many years, restricted traffic zones and pedestrian areas, as well Car Sharing and Bike Sharing services have been implemented. The Mobility Management activities carried out by the Municipality encourages the use of public transport by means a contribution to the employees to buy subscription.

Status of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan

The sustainable mobility in all its modes (walking, cycling, public transport) has been the primary objective of the Planning for Mobility in Parma in recent years (PUM and PGTU: http://www.comune.parma.it/citta/mobilita-e-trasporti/approfondimento/PUM---Piano-Urbano-della-Mobilita.aspx). Today, the adoption of a new Master Plan for Sustainable Mobility is a necessary starting point for the sustainable development of Parma.
