Mantova is located on a small peninsula on the banks of the Mincio River, where the river widens and forms the three lakes that surround the city. So surrounded by lakes and characterized by a medieval-Renaissance architecture, the city lends itself easily to use measures of sustainable mobility (walking, cycling).

Status of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan

Mantova has not yet approved a SUMP. However, the Administration, with the accession to the Covenant of Mayors and the approval of the Action Plan for Sustainable Energy, has pledged to take action on energy and environmental sustainability with a particular focus on the reduction of air pollution resulting from traffic congestion.
The Administration is fielding and coordinating a set of actions on mobility management and on development of mobility patterns with low environmental impact, including also electric mobility.
In general the City is promoting and encouraging sustainable modes of transport directed to reduce environmental impact and to rise the culture of sustainable mobility.
