Along the west coast of the Gulf of Liguria, Savona (60,595 inhabitants) with Vado Ligure is the second largest port in the region and represents the access route to the Coast of the Flowers. The municipal area stretches along the coastline and inland along the estuaries of the rivers that descend from the Apennines (the creek Letimbro mainly). The mountainous territory has characterized and severely limited the development of traffic links. The main links between Savona and the surrounding area are the Via Aurelia, which runs along the coast from east to west, the highway (SS29) of Cadibona hill to connect with the Bormida Valley and the Po valley and other highways.
The company named Linea manages the public transport both on the urban and suburban area.

Status of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan
Savona has not yet adopted a SUMP but is in the process of approving the Urban Mobility and Traffic Plan, directed to reduce the usage of the vehicle-private in favor of alternative modes of travel. The preparation of PUMT is part of a wider project "+ TPL" co-financed by the Ministry of Environment, Land and Sea, aimed at encouraging greater use of local public transport.
