The most evident criticalities regarding Rome are: the extremely high motorization rate (987 motor vehicles/1000 inhabitants); a total of about 700.000 motorcycles (both <50 cm3 and >50 cm3); low utilization rate of public transport (29% modal share); strong commuting; limited development of alternative "sustainable" modes of transport. The new General Urban Traffic Plan, currently in pending approval, will try to address these criticalities.
