The city of Trieste, in terms of mobility, is making an effort on several fronts according to the program dictated by the recently approved General Plan of Urban Traffic. Pedestrian areas are growing, as are walking trails from the city center to the periphery, with the aim of creating a network dedicated to weak traffic users. It is also proceeding with the implementation of 30 km/h zones both in the city center and in some small villages on the plateau. Urban bike routes are being designed, in order to facilitate the use of bikes for both recreational and working uses. A new parking policy based on the rationalization of parking rates is also being developed, the expansion of parking lots for motorcycles and measures to encourage the use of the "parking belt" around the city center, in order to facilitate the exchange between the private car and the other modes of transport. In the field of e-mobility, with the support of Acegas Aps, the realization of a dozen of charging stations was achieved; measures to ensure free parking for the electric and hybrid vehicles for the first hour will follow shortly. It is also being planned, with funding from the program Pisus (integrated plans for sustainable urban development), the creation of a bike sharing service.
