The principle town of County Tipperary. Clonmel is located in the south east of Ireland. A fast growing town it serves as the headquarters for a number of large multination industries and has a busy retail sector.
The town which serves as the administrative headquarters for Tipperary County Council sits on the main Waterford-Limerick intercity road and rail routes. Waterford - the closest city is 50km south east.
Clonmel does not have a SUMP and like all Irish cities and towns outside Dublin is not required to develop a transport plan. It has, however, recently won designation as an Active Travel Town under the Department of Transport’s Smarter Travel scheme – which promotes sustainable transport measures in cities and towns outside the greater Dublin Area. The town will use this funding to construct a new cycling routeway connecting the east and west sides of the town.and to run education programs to encourage people to change their mobility patterns.
